I want to take this opportunity to sincerely appreciate the management and staff of OKFM 99.5 & OKTV for inviting us to their live morning #Rush program to discuss critical issues relating to HIV/AIDS in Liberia. Their commitment demonstrates the important role the media plays in educating the public and promoting national health priorities.
We encourage other media institutions across the country also to provide platforms for discussions on HIV/AIDS because HIV/AIDS is everyone’s business. The responsibility to combat HIV/AIDS does not rest solely with the National AIDS Commission or the Ministry of Health; it requires a collective national effort involving government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, the media, communities, and individuals.
Together, we can intensify awareness, reduce stigma and discrimination, promote testing and treatment services, and work towards achieving zero new HIV infections and ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
As we continue to engage the public and promote national ownership of the HIV response, support can come in many forms. Media institutions, community organizations, and individuals can contribute by helping to disseminate information and raise awareness. If you operate a print media outlet, radio station, television station, or any communication platform, we invite you to partner with us. We can provide educational materials, including flyers, posters, and other information, education, and communication resources, along with accurate and up-to-date messages on HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support.
The National AIDS Commission remains committed and available to collaborate with all partners in creating awareness and strengthening Liberia’s HIV response. Together, we can build a healthier and HIV-free future for all Liberians.
